Irena Fiket
Deliberative Citizenship is an attempt to theoretically and empirically problematize and explore the concept of citizenship within deliberative democracy, thus providing insight into the question, “Should the citizenry be encouraged and empowered to participate in deliberative formulation of political decisions and what are the advantages of such participation?” The author discusses the role of citizenship, but also asks related questions: what is deliberative democracy? What distinguishes it from other models of democracy? What is the relationship between the theoretical model of deliberative democracy and its various modalities of application? What are the specifics of the transformative process of forming deliberative citizenship? Can citizens develop the capacity to reflect on socio-political issues from different perspectives, thus broadening their understanding?
