Since 2021, the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade has established the “Zagorka Golubović” Award which is intended for young researchers for engaged research work. The award is presented for the best work published in a scientific journal or in an edited volume which approaches regional (Southeastern Europe) or broader social problems in an engaged way.
The Committee considered all the applications received and unanimously proposed that Violeta Tadić, a researcher intern at the Institute for Pedagogical Research in Belgrade, to be the laureate of the annual “Zagorka Golubović” Award for 2023 for her paper “On Approaches to Defining and Operationalizing the Concept of Safety in the School” which was published in the scientific journal Nastava i vaspitanje 71, vol.2.
The Committee’s conclusion is that Violeta Tadić’s paper treats the problem of school security as a complex social problem. The paper aims to identify basic conceptual and operational dilemmas and problems through a critical consideration of different approaches; moreover, it indicates the importance of the term and its adequate definition due to its implications for further research and the creation of school policy. The paper represents a useful resource and framework of understanding not only for theorists and researchers of school safety, but also for all relevant participants in the educational process who deal with this problem which is of vital interest for our contemporary society in a practical way. With its orientation towards engaged thinking and treatment of a topic which is of broad social importance, Violeta Tadić’s paper was selected in the competition for the “Zagorka Golubović” Award for the year 2023.
The Scientific Council of the Institute supported the proposal of the Commission for presenting the award at the council meeting held on October 31, 2023, and made the final decision to present the annual “Zagorka Golubović” Award for 2023 to the research intern at the Institute for Pedagogical Research in Belgrade, Violeta Tadić.
