[Book seminar] Performing Power by Marcus Morgan (CriticLab)
We invite you to a seminar dedicated to the book Performing Power by Marcus Morgan, which offers an innovative theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between power and social performance.
Drawing on insights from cultural sociology, the book shows that power is not exercised solely through institutions, but also through the symbolic, affective, and aesthetic dimensions of public action. Particular attention is paid to the capacities of actors, as well as the constraints they face, as they seek to mobilize meaning and awaken emotions in audiences through performance.
The seminar will open up space for critical discussion of contemporary political and social practices, especially regarding the ways in which struggles for power are articulated, legitimized, and contested through performative strategies.
