[Lecture] Ahmet Alibašić – Good Governance in Islamic Tradition (YugoLab)
🗓 Nov 28 🕒 11:00 CET 🔹 IFDT/online
Contemporary Islamic socio-political thought mainly focuses on political systems and how these systems relate or should relate, to the Islamic normative system. The mode of governance and its outcomes were in large part not the subject of interest. This lecture examines two important aspects of the concept of good governance in light of Islamic normative texts and historical practices: the rule of law and professionalism. Islamic legitimization of good governance becomes a necessity in an effort to build an overlapping consensus on this topic.
Ahmet Alibašić is an Associate Professor and Vice Dean for Education at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at the University of Sarajevo. He deals with issues of Islam in Europe, Islamic socio-political thought, the relationship between religion and the state, and interreligious dialogue. He has authored three books and numerous articles. He is one of the editors of the Yearbook of Muslims in Europe (Brill, 2009-2022) and the Journal of Muslims in Europe (Brill, Leiden). He currently participates in two international Horizon 2020 research projects.
