[Lecture] Hungary and the Holocaust (ShoahLab)

As part of a series of events dedicated to the issue of studying the Holocaust in neighboring countries, ShoahLab invites you to attend the lecture entitled “Hungary and the Holocaust” on October 26, 2022 at 5 p.m.
Professor Louise O. Vasvári will speak about the issue of studying the Holocaust in Hungary, taking into account the female perspective. She will hold a lecture on Hungarian-Speaking Women’s Holocaust Life Writing. The second lecturer will be Dávid Szőke, who comes from the University of Szeged, and the topic of his presentation will be Memorialisation As an Artistic Counter Strategy to the Antigypsy Gaze in Igor Krikunov’s The Leader. He will deal with the topic of the Holocaust through the prism of literature. The last lecture, titled The Artistic Representation of Baby Yar as the Metaphor for Holocaust by Bullets, will be given by Márta Goldmann, professor and Holocaust expert. She will talk about the massacre in Babin Jar from a slightly different angle.
The lectures will be held online, in English language.
Louise O. Vasvári is Professor Emerita of Comparative Literature and of Linguistics at Stony Brook University. Currently she teaches in the Linguistics Department at NYU and is also Affiliated Professor at the University of Szeged.
Dávid Szőke received his doctorate at the University of Szeged, at the Department of Comparative Literature.
Márta Goldmann is a university associate professor and head of the department at the Jewish Theological Seminary – University of Jewish Studies in Budapest.
