Presentation of research findings: Community foundations in Serbia

The Laboratory for Philanthropy, Solidarity and Care Studies – SolidCare Lab and Trag Foundation will present the research “Community Foundations in Serbia” and the publication that emerged as a result. The event will take place on March 28, 2022 at 12pm in the premises of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, Kraljice Natalije 45 (4th floor) and will be broadcast live on Facebook pages https://www.facebook.com/instifdt and https://www.facebook.com/TRAGfondacija.

In order to solve a certain problem or achieve the desired goal, local communities need support. To a certain extent, they can get support through the institutions of the system. However, it is often necessary that citizens undertake initiatives and rely on different sources of funding to achieve the desired changes. Community foundations have the power to motivate and empower citizens to gather and shape their immediate environment in a way that is in line with shared values ​​and visions. They connect local donors and direct funds towards initiatives that enable concrete changes in local communities.

The project “Community Foundations in Serbia” was implemented with the aim of understanding and analysing the activities of community foundations in Serbia (existing and emerging), to present their role in empowering citizens to take an active part in shaping their immediate environment, to describe the challenges they face in their work and the problems of the communities in which they operate, as well as prospects for further development of this form of social engagement.

The research was realized by the Institute of Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade, through its Laboratory for Philanthropy, Solidarity and Care Studies – SolidCare Lab for the needs of Trag Foundation, which commissioned the study within the program “Our local foundation – community has a say!”
