Presentation of the thematic issue “Pain, Suffering, and Discrimination” in the journal Temida, first issue of 2026
The thematic issue “Pain, Suffering, and Discrimination” of the journal Temida, published by the Victimology Society of Serbia, is dedicated to examining these phenomena as topics that are rarely addressed in public discourse and even less frequently subjected to systematic scientific research.
Pain, suffering, and discrimination are not only individual experiences, but also socially and institutionally mediated phenomena that have direct implications for the realization of rights, quality of life, and overall social well-being.
This thematic issue was developed within the research activities of the Solid Care Laboratory at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, through two years of continuous interdisciplinary work and collaboration among researchers, aimed at understanding these phenomena as interrelated social processes.
This issue brings together contributions from different theoretical and analytical perspectives on pain, suffering, and discrimination, focusing on their social, institutional, and legal dimensions, including: the relationship between vulnerability, injustice, and social recognition; social exclusion, marginalization, and homelessness; ideological and political dimensions of attitudes toward justice and redistribution; religious interpretations of suffering; historical, philosophical, and psychoanalytic approaches to understanding pain; as well as questions of responsibility and the experiences of perpetrators of criminal acts.
The event will feature presentations by the editors and contributing researchers.
