Part of a joint comparative research in the concepts of love in Europe and China, Gábor Boros’ text outlines the vicissitudes of the Christian metaphysical concept of love from its emergence in late antiquity to its decay in the 19th century. Far from being an exhaustive treatment, the text focuses on some of the turning points of the development of the concept that would eventually influence its understanding and applications in politics, literature, arts, and other domains of life.
Gábor BOROS is professor of philosophy in Loránd Eötvös University Budapest, Department of Early Modern to Contemporary Philosophy. His main focus in research is 17th century philosophy of emotions with ramifications in other époques if the topic requires, and in other disciplines such as ethics and metaphysics if the particular treatments of emotions requires. Gábor Boros is head of the doctoral school “Philosophical Sciences”, and he is vice-dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
