Interpretation of the law is the job of lawyers. In practice, lawyers interpret regulations, starting from the interest of their client, while the government and courts do so through the lens of social interest. Each interpretation is the result of argumentation, while each argument is expressed in words that can be interpreted. Two important texts by Robert Alexy and Neil MacCormick provide methods for the structural analysis of legal interpretation and argumentation.
