Research abstract
Housing is Political: Towards More Affordable Housing in Belgrade
This project aims to explore ways to increase social and economic justice in the context of housing in Belgrade. The research work is focused on the analysis of the effects of the existing tax policy related to the construction, purchase, ownership and use of residential units in the capital city. The goal of the project is to develop alternative models of taxation that would contribute to changing the incentives within the housing policy thus making them part of the social justice system. The change in incentives should lead to housing units becoming more available and affordable for people who want to actually live in them and progressively more expensive for owners who use housing units as business premises or as an investment or savings asset.
