Research abstract
The Workforce: Its Potential and Utilization
The workforce is treated as a generator of societal development as a whole, a contingent upon which economic and demographic vitality rests. Thus, this theme is of pertinent interest for various researchers as well as the object of national institutional solutions. This research is focused on identifying the spatial patterns and understanding the local characteristics of the workforce as well as on interpreting their causality. This research simultaneously treats the potential of the workforce at the local level in Serbia and the degree of its utilization by analyzing the scope, structure (sex, age, activity, occupation, level of education) as well as the elements in the area of employment (supply and demand of jobs). This typology from municipalities has shown spaces with “weak” and “strong” potential of the workforce which form the basis of the guidelines for overcoming the problems at the local job market with the aim of reaching a balanced development of local environments.
