A Counter-Institution in the Making: The History of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory
The history of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory is closely bound to the historical events of larger societal history, starting with the formation of the Praxis group, the student protests of 1968, through the dissolution of Yugoslavia, all the way to the political changes in Serbia in the twenty-first century. The establishment and making of the Institute have been a result of these processes because its founders and members were no mere witnesses to them, but rather central actors in their unfolding. The various authors of this volume show a critical and self-critical approach by the Institute members in response to the historical events that gave shape to this institution, presenting it as always part of the state and running counter to it.
