The central subject of this book is the reception and critical analysis of Hare’s constructivism. In Hare’s opinion, an appropriate combination of metaethics (universal perspectivism) and normative ethics (utilitarianism) allows for the formation of a complete and coherent moral system. The first part of the book considers Hare’s metaethical doctrine, while the second analyzes Hare’s multiple means of tying it together with his normative doctrine. In the third and final part, the book shows the so-called “theory of two levels” of normative moral thinking, including the aims of its creation.
