What We Mean when We Say… Ethics and AI: Ethics and Public Attitudes on the Use of Artificial Intelligence
The proposed guidelines are the result of the project Ethics and AI: Ethics and Public Attitudes on the Use of Artificial Intelligence. The research conducted within the project provided data on the knowledge and attitudes of the public in Serbia towards various aspects of the use of artificial intelligence, as well as trust in various institutions to develop and use AI in the best interest of the public. The results of the research showed that the public is not sufficiently familiar with this concept and that there is not enough trust in some (particularly state) institutions. Additional effort is needed to present AI to the public and build trust in its use. What needs to be done as a first step is to educate the public about artificial intelligence and its applications. The second recommendation is to encourage public dialogue, in the form of organizing workshops, seminars, lectures and the like, intended for the general public in order to present benefits, but also to point out the challenges arising from the development and use of AI. What we want to achieve when it comes to this topic is educating the public about artificial intelligence, increasing transparency and dialogue between the public, experts, the private sector, and the state.
