Progressive cultural policies can be neither imagined nor implemented without conceptualizing the notion of culture in the broadest possible sense, thinking of changes in socio-economic relations on a global scale, and progressive economic and other public policies whose integral task would be to create conditions for the development of free and solidary people and communities. In order to make the vision of a society of equity and freedom come true, it is necessary to ensure the conditions for the abolition of all forms of political domination, as well as the protection of social activities from demands for the realization of profit. This is important because the process of neoliberalization has led to catastrophic economic and social inequality in the world and the ecological destruction of the planet. In today’s societies, the sphere of culture either depends on arbitrary decisions of a small number of actors or on the market, although therer are examples of progressive cultural policies and appropriate guidelines for the development of culture and art. This text reveals some ways to think about new models of cultural politics and organization in the cultural domain.
