The author regards premature mortality as one of the biggest challenges facing Serbia. The text provides specific recommendations for the adoption and revision of public policies. The first is a paradigmatic shift in population policy: instead of the traditional pronatality, the text proposes a population policy that prioritizes health. The author suggests a revision of strategic documents, focusing on prevention and opening up public health data as an affordable way to encourage research, and inform and educate the general public.
