Edited by Jelena Ćeriman , Aleksandra Knežević Author(s)/Editors Gordana Lalić-Krstin Publisher Sarajevo: TPO Foundation University of Novi Sad, Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade Published 2024 ISBN - Pages 360 Edition Special editionThe collection „Gender and Violence in the Balkans“ represents a comprehensive analysis of gender-based violence and the wider influence of gender issues in Balkan society. The volume is the result of the work and thought of participants of the Winter School “Gender and Violence”. Their papers have been developed with the mentoring support of their professors. This volume not only documents the key insights that formed the program of the Winter School, but it also encapsulates the discussions that took place as a result of it. The volume also deepens our understanding of complex connections between gender, gender identities and different forms of violence reproduced and tolerated by society. Through different approaches and perspectives, the authors explore how gender manifests itself in different spheres of social life – from public spheres like those of law and politics, to education, science, culture and art, as well as deeply personal and intimate aspects of human lives. The papers in this volume aim to shed light on the ways in which gender, as a construct, influences different aspects of life and how, violence, especially targeted at women, shapes the social, political and cultural reality of the region.
