On December 23, 2024, the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory hosted the seminar “How Is Space Thought?,” dedicated to the book Scenes of Urban Life: The Single-Family House in the Contemporary City by Dr. Ana Nikezić, Full Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade. The event brought together researchers from the fields of architecture and philosophy for a discussion on the book’s central theoretical perspectives and their relevance to contemporary understandings of architectural space.
Scenes of Urban Life builds on Dr. Nikezić’s research and teaching at the Faculty of Architecture, exploring the role of the single-family house within the complexities of urban everyday life. Through an analysis of the “house in the city,” the book develops methodological approaches for interpreting contemporary urban living through the lens of architectural practice and theory. The seminar provided an opportunity for interdisciplinary dialogue on how these perspectives relate to broader social and spatial contexts.
Alongside the author, the discussion featured contributions from Dr. Jelena Atanacković-Jeličić (Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad), Dr. Verica Krstić and Dr. Snežana Vesnić (Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade), architect and set designer Mina Miladinović, and Dr. Petar Bojanić (Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory). The conversation was moderated by Marko Ristić, Research Associate at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory.
