In response to the statement made by the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, and her call for accountability from the Rector and the University of Belgrade, we inform the public that the mentioned individual, Marija Vasić, is not a professor at the University of Belgrade, nor is she associated with our university in any capacity. The said person is a sociology professor at a high school in Novi Sad, which is a well-known fact.
We express our public protest against the malicious insinuations that the University of Belgrade, as a fundamental national institution for over 200 years, could ever be involved in any kind of anti-state movements.
We make a public appeal to all relevant institutions, public office holders, and the media to perform their duties responsibly and to cease the dangerous practice of alarming the public.
We warn that the dissemination of false information through public media by public office holders, especially in a manner that incites panic and creates an atmosphere of insecurity among citizens, constitutes grounds for legal, political, and moral accountability. We urge the public and judicial authorities to protect the academic community from slander and rhetoric that fuels conflicts and unrest.
