Pantović Ljiljana

Ljiljana Pantović is a medical anthropologist and Research Fellow at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade. Her work centers on ethnographic research in women’s reproductive health, everyday practices of care and structural inequalities in access to healthcare. She examines the organization of reproductive and childbirth care, the effects of healthcare privatization, informal practices, barriers to accessibility and the ways women navigate health systems under conditions of institutional constraint.

Her research also includes the study of medical crowdfunding as an emergent strategy of coping with the erosion of public healthcare and widening health inequalities. She is particularly interested in questions of reproductive justice, vulnerability, and the political economy of health in postsocialist societies.

She is currently completing an extensive qualitative study on medical deserts and the local regimes of access to healthcare in rural areas of Serbia.

Ljiljana holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh. Her work has been published in international peer-reviewed journals, including Birth: Issues in Perinatal Care and Nature Comminications, as well as in edited volumes published by Springer in the field of global maternal and reproductive health.

She is a member of SolidCare Lab, GenLab, and YugoLab, collaborative research groups focused on care, social inequalities, the political economy of health, and reproductive justice.
