A Guide for Doing Philosophy with Children
This philosophic guide is intended as support for primary school teachers in their lesson preparations, aiming to inspire both them and their pupils to think in various ways about topics offered in the book. It follows a problem and developmental approach to philosophy: it is not about “learning” the material, but rather learning what it means to do philosophy. Thinking, going beyond the immediate task, outside the given, pushing the envelope. The guide comprises 20 terms, which the various authors have, each in their own way, presented and elaborated: good and evil, art, justice, freedom, happiness, tolerance, violence, truth and lie, life, time and space, friendship, courage, God, nature and humanity, wisdom and knowledge, the world, equality and difference, love, and silence. The guide provides scenarios for imaginary classroom settings, within which the reader, together with teachers and students, can philosophize.
