The Extended Rector’s Collegium of the University of Belgrade strongly condemns the inappropriate treatment of the University’s Rector, exemplified by a summons to appear for questioning on short notice – on Good Friday, no less – in connection with a criminal complaint. Particularly alarming is the fact that the summons followed a media smear campaign accompanied by slander and threats suggesting the orchestration of politically motivated proceedings, representing an unprecedented act of pressure and intimidation.
This action against the Rector is not merely an attack on an individual, but a broader attempt to intimidate and discipline all university actors who have demonstrated integrity, solidarity, and responsibility during one of the most difficult moments in the country’s recent history. This is not only an abuse of authority, but also a message to all critically-minded citizens and institutions in Serbia.
We demand an immediate halt to all forms of pressure against the University.
The Extended Rector’s Collegium expresses its full support for Prof. Dr. Vladan Đokić and will use all legitimate means to stop further repression.
