The Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory welcomes applications for the participation at the third School on Social Engagement and Democracy (ANDEM), which takes place from September 19 to 23, 2022 in Belgrade. The Call is opened for students of any level and field, social activists and interested young people from Serbia and the region.
Did you ever wonder about the values of democracy and the existing models of democracy, or why is democracy in crisis in Serbia and the region? Are you interested to know what notions of common good, welfare, wellbeing, and human flourishing mean, and how justice is conceived in modern political theory? What is social engagement, how a group emerges through engaged acts and how engagement can lead to a radical social change? What is the role of intellectuals in the public life and politics? What is the role of new social movements in the region in creating more solidary societies? What do notions of philanthropy and case mean and what is their relation to social engagement? What exactly is gender that we find in the phrase ‘gender equality’ and is there a case of some ideology being behind it? Do you wish to know more about engaged research, engaged literature and film? Are you interested in the development of eco-activism in Serbia and how ecological battles are fought? Are you interested in the phenomena of solidarity and social movements, as well as their manifestation in the country and the region? Are you interested in learning more about innovative models of democratic institutions? Have you ever wondered in which cases philanthropy is a significant form of social engagement, and when it threatens democracy?
In that case, the Summer School of Social Engagement and Democracy (𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗠) organized by IFDT is the right place for you!
ANDEM reaches into several thematic fields belonging to the spheres of sociology, anthropology, psychology, political sciences, and philosophy. The school aims at both perfecting the theoretical knowledge in these fields and problematizing practical applications of the acquired knowledge in contemporary societies, considering in particular the possibility of social engagement.
The participants of the School on Social Engagement and Democracy will have an opportunity to expand their knowledge on these timely topics through lectures, discussions, practical examples etc., delivered by the experts on the topics of social engagement, activism, participatory democracy, citizenship, philanthropy, philosophy, and critical theory.
