DEBATING DEMOCRACY is committed to developing new approaches to learning and teaching through the utilization of datathlons. These datathlons involve the analysis of natural speech samples (corpus) related to sustainable development and democracy, facilitated by software tools. Within the framework of this project, specialized modules will be designed at the MA level, aiming to equip students with the skills to employ corpus analysis in their examination of key concepts in social and political spheres. DEBATING DEMOCRACY will orchestrate datathons that encompass dynamic elements, including real-time analysis, collaborative assessment, and debate. This groundbreaking educational model draws inspiration from the concept of hackathons frequently employed in the IT industry. In this context, datathons serve as a novel pedagogical tool that has yet to find its place within structured educational environments. Collaboration of partner institutions will enable the creation of a pilot corpus available in four languages beyond English, namely French, Italian, Serbian, and Norwegian.
