The Winter School Gender and Violence is organized by the University of Novi Sad and the Gender Research Laboratory (GenLab) of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University of Belgrade, in cooperation with the TPO Foundation and the University Gender Resource Center (UNIGeRC) of the University of Sarajevo. The Winter School will take place in Novi Sad from February 19 to February 23, 2024, and will feature 17 interactive lectures as well as a round-table discussion on gender and violence; it will cover topics such as the relationship between sex and gender, body and power relations, patriarchy, sexuality, violence in both the private and the public spheres, discrimination, law, disability as well as the representation of gender and violence in language, literature, and the media. Over the course of five days of the Winter School, in addition to acquiring new knowledge and participating in discussions, participants will have the opportunity to network and to establish partnerships with young people from the Balkan region.
Participants of the Winter School are expected to:
- regularly and actively participate in all activities of the winter school,
- come prepared to the lectures, which means reading the required literature for each thematic unit,
- write a final paper with the support of a mentor.
Certificate
Participants who fulfil their obligations will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
ECTS
Students who fulfil all the obligations of the Winter School will have it stated on their Certificate of Attendance that they have earned 3 credit points (ECTS / ESPB – European Credit Transfer System), i.e., 1 point for every 30 hours of work.
Final Paper
After attending the lectures and discussions, participants will choose a topic from the field of gender and violence and write a 3000-word paper with references with the support of a mentor. Selected papers will be published in a collection of works and the best three papers will receive a monetary prize.
Costs
The costs of accommodation, food, and travel are covered by the TPO Foundation from Sarajevo.
