Below we convey the statement of the Dean’s Council of the Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade, which we fully support.
We inform you that today, April 1, 2025, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Belgrade – Prof. Dr. Žaklina Stojanović – was questioned at the Belgrade City Police Department, following the explicit order of the First Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade. She was informed that the questioning had to be conducted within two hours of the phone call. When she requested that the questioning be postponed until the next day due to previously scheduled official obligations, she was told it had to happen that same day or a patrol would be sent to her home address.
The Dean complied with the summons and provided the requested information regarding a criminal complaint concerning the alleged offense of violation of equality under Article 128 of the Criminal Code. We believe that, in this case, there were no grounds justifying this type of summons, particularly the threat of sending a police patrol to the home of a university dean. The justification given for this police action was a direct order from the First Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, but we see no valid reason for such an order or for the urgency involved.
The Dean’s Council of the Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade, recognizes this criminal complaint as an additional form of pressure on the Faculty and the academic community, due to the principled support we are providing to the fulfillment of student demands.
