The Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University of Belgrade announces that this year’s recipient of the “Miladin Životić” Award is the distinguished economist and Nobel Prize laureate in economics, Prof. Joseph Stiglitz
Stiglitz, author of numerous landmark studies and former Chief Economist of the World Bank, is globally recognized as a tireless critic of inequality and economic injustice, but also as a public intellectual who has consistently used his authority to support young people and students in their struggles for a fairer and more democratic society.
The award is presented to eminent intellectuals whose work and engagement contribute to freedom of thought, social justice, and a critical public sphere, and this year it goes to one of the most influential thinkers of our time.
The award ceremony will take place in December in Belgrade. This event represents not only recognition of Joseph Stiglitz’s work, but also confirmation of the international standing of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, which in previous years has hosted and honored renowned figures of the global intellectual scene such as Judith Butler, Axel Honneth, Étienne Balibar, Thomas Piketty, and Maria Todorova.
