Balunović Filip
Filip Balunović is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade and an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Media and Communications. He completed his undergraduate studies in 2011 at the Faculty of Political Science in Belgrade. He earned his first master’s degree in European Studies and International Relations in 2013 at the European Institute in Nice and Bilgi University in Istanbul. He completed his second master’s degree in Human Rights and Democracy in 2015 at the universities of Sarajevo and Bologna (ERMA). In 2020, he obtained his PhD in Sociology of Social Movements from Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence. As a visiting researcher, he has been affiliated with universities in Liverpool, Ljubljana, and Copenhagen. In 2020, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Advanced Studies of Southeastern Europe at the University of Rijeka. In 2022, he was a Circle U program fellow and a guest lecturer at Humboldt University in Berlin. In 2024, he was a fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a visiting researcher at the University of Vienna at the Research Center for the History of Transformations (RECET). He is the author of three monographs: Notes from Freedom (Mediteran, Novi Sad 2014), The Poverty of Human Rights (FMK 2023), and The Revival of the Left in the Balkans: Counter-Hegemonic Activism and Ideas that Fueled It (Routledge 2024), as well as several academic articles in the fields of the sociology of social movements and critical theory.
