The Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory (IFDT) hosted the Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation Jelena Begović, State Secretary Vukašin Gvozdić, and Assistant Minister Marina Soković. During the visit, the Ministry representatives met with the Institute’s Management Board, the Scientific Council, the Institute’s Governing Board, as well as the employed researchers. On this occasion, Gazela Pudar Draško expressed her gratitude to the Ministry delegation for their willingness to become acquainted with the issues and potentials of IFDT.
This visit is part of the Ministry’s initiative to better understand the work of academic institutions in the Republic of Serbia, to better comprehend the needs and potentials of the scientific community. Minister Begović opened the discussion with the employees by stating, “In the past six months, we have been working on visiting all institutes in the Republic of Serbia, as there are many that have never been visited by any minister in their history. It is very important to familiarize ourselves with the work of the institutes in such a direct way and to understand how you work, what your problems and challenges are, and how we can help you achieve your greatest potentials and deliver maximum work results.”
The IFDT employees took the opportunity to ask questions related to the accreditation of diplomas for students who studied abroad, the system of excellence assessment in social sciences and humanities, the possibility of continuing to provide funds for excellence to researchers on maternity leave, as well as other issues concerning the allocation of budget funds for science.
The Ministry representatives invited IFDT employees to contribute with advice and suggestions for potential tools for evaluating social sciences and humanities, as well as to initiate the gathering of social sciences and humanities institutions to formulate common needs that would be forwarded to the Ministry. After the meetings, the Minister and the delegation toured the Institute’s premises.
