Description:
The topic of the book is the relationship of painting and deaf-muteness. In expression and communication, neither the painter nor the deaf person primarily use words, but rather non-verbal gestures. The connection between painting and a mute act was noticed already in antiquity, and has been thematized in a long period of time, up to the present. That this relationship is not only metaphorical is testified by the examples of hearing-impaired persons who have left an important mark in the history of painting. In addition to the extensive foreword by the volume editor, Miloš Ćipranić, the book includes two essays – “Revival of Paintings” (1946) by José Ortega y Gasset and “Mimic in Art” (1998) by Ana María Leyra.
