What We Mean when We Say … New Politics of Care
The focus of this text is on the current neoliberal crisis. The neoliberal model, which has denied the inherent human vulnerability and interdependence, has unsustainable and devastating consequences, both for individuals and on the social level. The text considers the circumstances that led to the devastating absence of basic care and the complete disintegration of care policies, as well as the potential elements of a way out of such a situation. One of the main challenges of the paper is understanding how a lack of care actually speaks of distance not only from ourselves, but also from others and from the world around us. This distance lies at the heart of alienation and indifference that lead to the erosion of collectives and institutions, as well as faith in them. The politics of care are the name of a social phenomenon that confronts the dominant discourse about the replaceability of the individual, about “time as money”, about not having time for one’s own well-being and the well-being of others.
