This project is dedicated to the study, promotion, and dissemination of Jewish cultural heritage in the Western Balkans. Its primary focus is on Jewish culture during the interwar period, explored through the digitized editions of the Sarajevo weekly Jevrejski glas (The Jewish Voice). The Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory is chiefly responsible for the research component of the project. It develops the methodological framework, provides both theoretical and practical guidance to the research team at Mediacentar, oversees the project’s progression, and disseminates findings through academic publications. The research is centered on both content and structural analysis of Jevrejski glas, with the aim of identifying and contextualizing elements of Jewish cultural heritage across the Western Balkans. The results of this research will be made publicly accessible through the digitization of Jevrejski glas articles on the Infobiro portal, maintained by Mediacentar. Furthermore, the identified cultural elements will serve as the foundation for a creative workshop designed for young artists, who will develop innovative digital solutions that contribute to the promotion and revitalization of Jewish heritage.

‘Reviving Jewish Culture in the Western Balkans’ is supported by UNESCO, through the “Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans” (CC4WBs) project, funded by the European Union. The project is focused on fostering dialogue in the Western Balkans by enhancing the cultural and creative sectors for increased socio-economic impact.
