The author departs from the belief that “the purpose of transformation of identity of both the human individual and species, is the development of spiritual potential.” To shed light on anthropological potentials that might lead to such transformation, the author claims that it is necessary to classify various kinds of meanings of identity and place them in relation with one another. The chapters in this study are focused on understanding identity in relation to individuality, the collective, culture and knowledge.
