Orthodox Christianity and War
The volume Orthodox Christianity and War emerges from the fact that the Orthodox Christian view of war is not as elaborated as other spiritual and cultural traditions, as well as from an understanding that the Orthodox philosophical and theological thinking is not developing in step with contemporary events and wars the Orthodox Christian world faces. The book thus seeks to look at the most important questions in the ethics of war from an Orthodox Christian standpoint, providing an overview of the history of this religion’s attitudes and approaches to just war and pacifism. The contributing texts are broken down into two parts: the first deals with the attitude of Orthodox Christianity towards pacifism, while the second analyzes the relation towards just war theory.
