This policy paper emphasizes the need for Serbia to transition away from its reliance on fossil fuels towards a sustainable energy future. Despite Serbia’s current energy challenges, including a heavy dependence on fossil fuels and untapped renewable energy potentials, there is significant opportunity, notably in the geothermal and biomass sectors. The geopolitical shifts and economic stability underscore the urgency of this transition. The findings of this research indicate strong public support for solar and wind energy, with other renewable sources are also preferred over fossil fuels, the exception being nuclear energy which lacks public approval. While natural gas remains an exception, it is important to note that previous strategic documents have largely sidestepped public sentiment.
