The Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University of Belgrade and the Department of Geography at Humboldt University in Berlin have signed a cooperation agreement, further strengthening their existing academic exchange.
The cooperation was established through the COIL project Insurgent Urban Practices: How Cities Can Transform Democracy, within which researchers and students examine how cities actively shape democratic practices, forms of participation, and collective action.
The joint work focuses on Belgrade as a research site for exploring the relationship between urban conflicts, civic engagement, and democratic transformation. Through collaborative work, online lectures, workshops, and fieldwork, project participants investigate urban development, housing, extractivism, student protests, civic initiatives, and new forms of political participation. On behalf of IFDT the cooperation is led by the Laboratory for Theory, Creation and Politics of Space (PerspectLab), while the COIL format enables research to develop through continuous dialogue between different academic environments, generations of researchers, and disciplinary approaches.
The signed agreement represents an important step towards the long-term connection between IFDT and Humboldt University. In the coming years, the cooperation is planned to be further intensified through joint research activities, the development of new project proposals, knowledge exchange, and the strengthening of networks among researchers.
