PUBLIC CALL for the “Zagorka Golubović” Award for engaged research work by early-career researchers, published in 2025
The Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory announces a Public Call for the annual “Zagorka Golubović” Award for the best engaged research work by early-career researchers.
The “Zagorka Golubović” Award is granted for engaged scholarly work by early career researchers who are Master’s students, PhD candidates, or who obtained their doctorate within the past five years. The award is intended for an original authored text that critically engages with regional or broader social issues. If several authors apply with a jointly authored paper, all listed authors must meet the early-career requirement.
Submitted works may be published in Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin or English, in an academic journal or edited scholarly volume. Texts should constitute original scientific works in the fields of social sciences and humanities. Both theoretical and empirically grounded papers are eligible.
Submitted papers should:
- function as an invitation for others to engage in reflective thinking – encouraging critical reflection and action by focusing on themes and methods that challenge dominant narratives;
- contain a critical or engaged intention – striving to translate scholarly insights into guidelines for action, that is, to offer ideas that aspire to become practice;
- seek to involve a broader range of actors in reflection and action regarding institutional realities, using arguments understandable to a wider audience while maintaining scientific rigour and quality.
Applications should be submitted electronically to: institut@ifdt.bg.ac.rs, with the subject line: “Application for the Zagorka Golubović Award Competition”.
The application should include:
- the original academic paper,
- a separate document containing information about the author (name, date of birth, affiliation, and address),
- a brief explanation of how the submitted paper meets the competition criteria.
The deadline for submissions is 15 September 2026. In accordance with the current Regulations on the “Zagorka Golubović” Award, the jury will make its decision no later than 31 October 2026.
According to the jury’s evaluation, the best paper will be republished in the Institute’s journal Philosophy and Society – translated into English if originally published in Serbian, or in the journal Critique – translated into Serbian if originally published in English.
This year’s award fund amounts to 500 EUR.
