Research abstract
The research deals with the concept of illiberalism, i.e. the processes, scope and consequences of implementing illiberal policies in Serbia and Croatia. Through comparative case studies, the project investigates how illiberal actors use liberal tools and the consequences this has on democratic institutions, as well as the conditions under which illiberal politics and policies spread, emphasizing the interaction of liberal and illiberal forces. By studying political elites, members of civil society and experts, the aim of the study is to deepen our understanding of the impact of illiberalism on democratic governance and its evolution in different contexts. The research contributes to the broader discourse on the erosion of democracy and the global rise of illiberal movements.
