Marković Vukan

Vukan Marković is currently a PhD Candidate at Cambridge University. His proposed thesis title is The Anthropocene Challenges to the Understanding of Historical Time as the Recurring Sense of Crisis of History (1980s – Present). Before PhD, he completed his MA/MSc at LSE and Columbia University with dissertation Can History be a Poetic Endeavour? Hayden White, the Linguistic Turn and the Historian Beyond Modernity.

His field of specialisation is contemporary philosophy of history and intellectual history of the 20th century, including history of political thought. Researching the changes in the understanding and meaning of history occurring over the last four decades, his dissertation aims to provide a synthesis of theories about the crisis of history and crisis of modernity, as well as the influence of the Anthropocene on the understanding of history, with particular reflection on its philosophical origins, especially the philosophy of Martin Heidegger. Earlier in his education, he researched the influences of French theory (Derrida) on the development of history of ideas, philosophy of language, theories of West, as well as the relationship between literature and ideology.

He has been research assistant at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory since April 2021.
