[Lecture] Neena Singh – Amai! Improving AI-literacy and cocreating AI based solutions for societal challenges (DigiLab)
The amai! (Oh my! In Flemish) project seeks to engage in and inform citizens on the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI), focusing on four topics: work, the environment, mobility, and health. This involvement fosters innovation and participation.
In an upcoming lecture, Neena Singh will discuss three core aspects of Amai:
Science Communication: amai! aims to inform Flanders' citizens about AI, with an upcoming focus on those with little to no prior AI exposure, making AI education more inclusive.
Citizen Science: amai! encourages citizens to actively contribute their ideas and collaborate in the creation of AI-based solutions to address societal challenges, thereby promoting increased participation and a sense of ownership.
Project Calls: amai! supports consortia to turn citizens' ideas for AI applications, into reality through project funding.
Ms. Singh will also touch on co-creation methodologies, the tools developed for this purpose, and share lessons learned. This lecture provides insights into Amai Vlaanderen's transformative approach to AI awareness and participation, creating a more inclusive and participatory AI landscape in Flanders.
Neena Singh is a project officer at the VUB (Free University of Brussels) and working within the Knowledge Center Data & Society, the central hub for the legal, social and ethical aspects of data-driven and AI applications in Flanders, Belgium. Her main focus is on amai!, a project aimed at informing and empowering citizens in Flanders by implementing citizen science methods to develop solutions for societal challenges with AI. She also works on the topic of ethics in practice and has a keen interest in the intersection of art and technology, particularly focusing on data, AI, and ethics.
At the research group imec-SMIT VUB, she has, until recenty, been a core member of the DataBuzz-team in which workshops on data- and media-literacy are brought to Brussels pupils in a mobile laboratory.
This lecture is a part of The Future of AI: Social and Cultural Aspects online lecture series
that brings international experts to discuss the philosophy of AI, AI and post-digital aesthetics, cultural impacts of AI, AI (in) art, non-human agency, AI-driven social transformations, and, more generally, our coexistence with AI and digital technologies in all aspects of daily life. The series is organized by the Digital Society Lab [DigLab] of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory.
The event will be photographed and recorded due to publishing on social networks, the website and other information channels for the purpose of promoting the event and activities of the Institute.
