[BOOK TALK] Dubravka Stojanović – “The Past is Coming” (YugoLab)
Dubravka Stojanović is Professor of History at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. He teaches contemporary history and the history of globalization. Her research interests include the history of ideas, the issues of democratization and modernization of Serbia, the history of Belgrade, and the analysis of history textbooks. She has been dealing with textbooks since the 1990s, and her work in writing and editing regional textbook teaching materials and historical reading books is particularly significant and notable.
The latest book by Dubravka Stojanović examines the place of Serbian history textbooks from the perspective of an extended period, from 1913 to 2021. How did interpretations of the past change in Serbian history textbooks? What was their relationship with the official ideology and cultural memory? This is a study that comprehensively provides insight and answers to the mentioned, as well as many other questions. By looking at the recent history of Serbia by researching history textbooks for a long time, Dubravka Stojanović made a huge contribution to the development of intellectual history and the study of cultural memory in the entire post-Yugoslav area.
