Current Models of Legal Regulation of Prostitution: Nordic Model vs. New Zealand Model
🗓8 september 🕒 17:00 🔹 IFDT
The presentation will introduce two models of legal regulation of prostitution – the Nordic and New Zealand models. Given that the professional community in Serbia increasingly refers to these two models when discussing the modification of the existing prohibitionist model of legal regulation of prostitution in Serbia. The Nordic and the New Zealand models stand on completely different positions. According to the Nordic model, prostitution is an unacceptable social phenomenon, and the states that adopt this model combat prostitution by punishing individuals who use prostitution services. The New Zealand model is fundamentally a legalization model, where prostitution is a legally regulated activity, with special attention given to the protection of individuals engaged in it. The presentation will focus on the results that these models yield in practice in the countries where they are in force, their positive and negative aspects, and especially their impact on the legal and social status of individuals in prostitution.
