EMERGE 23 Forum: Aligning AGI for Humanity’s Future (DigiLab)
The rapid acceptance of generative AI technology opens the door for the potential of large neural networks. These networks can not only generate unique, intimate photos, videos, text, and audio but also perform various complex cognitive tasks. This progression moves us closer to the rise of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
Navigating this technological landscape poses significant challenges. How can we correctly align AGI with human values and ensure absolute safety? If such a potent algorithm were applied across multiple fields of human life, it could potentially outsmart humans and direct them towards harmful values or actions. More immediate risks are related to automated disinformation campaigns and their impact on democracy, while other scary scenarios include the use of AI killer robots by terrorist organizations (such as drones, which are easily created now) and the accidental creation of artificial viruses. Things are getting even more complicated with the emergence of large open-source language models. We see how even simpler AI technologies, such as recommender systems, continue to polarize societies, increase technology addiction, and affect our creativity, relationships with other humans, and wellbeing every day.
These trends underscore the urgent need for concrete AGI guidelines now, both in terms of regulation and the agenda for future scientific research. We invite you to join this year’s EMERGE 2023 Forum, which will focus on aligning Aligning AGI for Humanity’s Future. Additionally, EMERGE 2023 may cover a wide range of topics related to the intersection of the environment, society, and emerging technologies.
The event will be photographed and recorded due to publishing on social networks, the website and other information channels for the purpose of promoting the event and activities of the Institute.
