Russia´s war against Ukraine has important implications for the churches and religious communities there, for their relationship with each other and for global Orthodoxy. The lecture provides an overview of the religious landscape in Ukraine and focuses in particular on the country’s two Orthodox jurisdictions and their relationship to the state and society. Aspects of peace ethics, the role of church actors and the influence of historical and ideological factors are discussed. What could be a constructive role of churches and academic theology?
