[Panel discussion] From obstetric violence to dignified childbirth: research and experiences (GenLab)
The round table “From obstetric violence to dignified childbirth: research and experiences” will be held on November 30, 2023. in the period from 15:00 to 17:00 on the 4th floor of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory.
Lack of informed consent, inadequate information and insufficient support, as well as the absence of active involvement of women during childbirth are key problems in maternity hospitals in Serbia. Although the problems in the maternity hospitals were known, there was an unwritten rule that women should not talk about them in public. This situation has changed drastically in recent years, and women are speaking louder and more often about their negative and traumatic experiences and advocate for change.
As part of the global campaign of 16 days of activism against violence against women and girls, the Gender Research Laboratory (GenLab) is organizing a round table on the topic of obstetric violence and conditions for dignified childbirth in Serbia. The main problems and possible direction of changes, as well as recommendations for improving the treatment of women within maternity hospitals will be maped during this event.
The creators of the series “Mama Sutra” – Mina Šarenac and Ana Petrović, psychologist Biljana Stanković and medical anthropologist Ljiljana Pantović will take part in the conversation. The moderator of the discussion will be Rácz Krisztina, Research Fellow at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory.
The event will be photographed and recorded due to publishing on social networks, the website and other information channels for the purpose of promoting the event and activities of the Institute.
