We are inviting interested students to apply for the Seventh Summer School of Social Engagement and Democracy (ANDEM) which will be held from 7 to 11 September 2026 in Belgrade. The application is open for students of Bachelor and Master studies of all study programs from Serbia and the region.
What does social and political engagement mean today and is it possible to remain outside of it? How are care, solidarity, emotions and collective action intertwined in times of social crisis? How do contemporary crises change democracy and what roles do deliberation, pluralism and agonism have in collective decision-making? How do digital platforms, artificial intelligence and participatory practices change the possibilities of social and political engagement? What does gender equality mean and how do feminist and queer perspectives affect the understanding of social change?
If you are interested in these topics, the ANDEM summer school provides an opportunity for you to learn and reflect on them based on insights from sociology, anthropology, political science, philosophy and related disciplines. The aim of the summer school is to provide theoretical tools for critical thinking about society and practical engagement in social change, with a special focus on the meaning and significance of democracy.
The program will be held in the Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin and Serbian (BCMS) languages, at the premises of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory (IFDT) of the University of Belgrade, at the address 45 Kraljice Natalije, Belgrade. ANDEM attendees will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge on these current topics through lectures, discussions, round tables, workshops and activities outside IFDT.
Expenses of transportation to and from Belgrade will be refunded. Accommodation and food will be organized for students who are not from Belgrade, and during the program catering for all attendees will be provided.
The Senate of the University of Belgrade approved ANDEM as a program of continuing education. Attendees who take part in at least 75 per cent of the lectures will receive a certificate of completion.
To apply for this year’s summer school, fill out the form on this link no later than Tuesday, June 30th. The results of the selection will be announced in the second half of August.
