On Friday, January 27, 2023, the ambassador of the United States of America in Serbia, Mr. Christopher Hill visited the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University of Belgrade, on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Ambassador, director of the Institute, Dr. Gazela Pudar Draško, and ShoahLab coordinator, Dr. Milovan Pisarri, presented the project Introducing the First Holocaust and Genocide Studies MA Program in Serbia, which the Institute is implementing with the support of the US Embassy in Serbia and in cooperation with the Center for Human Rights and Democracy of the State University Georgia, the Department of History and Social Sciences at the University of West Alabama, and the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Minnesota.
Ambassador Christopher Hill recalled the horrors of the Holocaust and the six million Jews killed by the Nazis and their collaborators, and referred to the importance of the project and cooperation with American universities, while the director, Dr. Gazela Pudar Draško, recalled the importance of Institute’s international and regional cooperation and the need to develop a democratic society. Dr. Milovan Pisarri presented the project that envisages a two-year joint work of experts from Serbia and the USA in developing and establishing a Master program in Holocaust and Genocide at the Belgrade University.
After the presentation of the project, Ambassador Hill had the opportunity to familiarize himself with the Institute’s work and vision in detail, fully supporting the further cooperation with the American Embassy in Serbia.
