The project “Befriending Theory: A Video Glossary of Social Engagement Studies” was designed to approximate and promote the theoretical concepts underlying the research work of the Social Engagement Studies Group among the high school population in Serbia. The video glossary created during the project implementation will be distributed to secondary schools across Serbia. Selected theoretical concepts in political theory and philosophy, sociology, cultural anthropology, and critical theory will be adequately and interestingly explained by experts, researchers at IPST. Upon completion of the project, this video glossary will be made available to the professors and schools as an additional teaching tool during civic education, sociology, constitution or philosophy classes.
The concepts contained in this video glossary have been thought through and selected in consultation with researchers from the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory who have years of experience in implementing accredited training for teaching staff, as well as with the professors, teachers and professional assistants of high schools and vocational schools themselves who have immediate insights into the needs of teaching staff in the field.
The terms chosen in this glossary are solidarity, freedom, civil disobedience, social engagement, social justice, inclusivity, xenophobia, violence, feminism, and the public good.
One of the main goals of this project is to emphasize the importance of socio-humanities and critical theory with the help of video-glossary as a teaching tool in the regular teaching, which is increasingly losing importance and value in the educational system that strives for market orientation. Finally, this project aims to encourage and empower high school students and professors to take an active part in the creation of teaching aids that are based on the values and principles on which social engagement studies underpin, in a democratic manner and based on shared needs and interests.
