Mandatory labelling with Nutri-score and the implementation of Ecolabels for food products are the most important proposals from the citizens’ assembly held on April 13th and 14th in Belgrade.
The citizens’ assembly „Food Labeling in Serbia and Possible Alternatives: Path to Healthy Nutrition and a Healthy Environment”, organized by the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, brought together 70 people from across Serbia who, for two days, discussed the needs and priorities regarding the food labelling system in Serbia.
In addition to the necessary front-of-package Nutri-score designations, citizens voted for other significant recommendations. These included the use of a QR code on the back of packaging to provide detailed product information, as well as stricter control and systematic education on food quality and safety at all levels.
Apart from group discussion, participants had the opportunity to address their proposals and questions to experts and institutional representatives from the fields of health, agriculture and economy.
All conclusions reached by the citizens will be organized and forwarded to competent and relevant decision-makers.
