We are opening the fourth call for the “Zagorka Golubović” award for the best engaged scientific paper by early career researchers, published in 2023. The call will be open until September 15, 2024.
Eligible participants are master’s students, doctoral students, and those who have obtained a doctorate in the past five years (from 2020 onwards).
The award is intended for an original paper (without co-authorship) published in the past year (2023) in Serbian (Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin) or English in a scientific journal or a collection of scientific papers. Texts that approach regional or broader social problems in an engaged manner are considered. The texts should be original scientific works in the fields of social sciences and humanities. Both theoretical and empirically based works are considered.
Submitted papers should:
- Function as an invitation to others to join the process of reflecting and intervening into social reality – to encourage thinking and acting by focusing on themes and methods that challenge dominant narratives;
- Contain a critical, that is, an engaged aim – an effort to translate scientific insights into guidelines for acting (i.e., to be operationalized); that is, to offer a thought that wants to be an action;
- Strive to include a larger number of agents into thinking about and acting against institutional reality which requires a line of argument which is intelligible to a wider audience but which will not lose the rigor and the quality of scientific insights. Thus, the papers should be written using an engaging language.
It is necessary to send the published text with a short explanation (up to half a page) on how the submitted work meets the competition’s criteria, stating the journal/collection where and when the text was published. A biography must be attached to the application.
Applications should be sent exclusively by email to institut@ifdt.bg.ac.rs with the email subject “For the Zagorka Golubović Award – Name and Surname.”
The best paper, selected by members of the scientific jury, will be re-published in one of the journals of the Institute: Philosophy and Society or The Critique. The author of the winning paper will also be provided with a monetary prize.
Per the valid Rules on Awarding the Zagorka Golubović Award, the jury will decide by October 31, 2024, at the latest.
